Donald M. Koma Jr. 1941-2025

NORTH LIMA — Donald M. Koma Jr. passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at his home.

Donald was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of Donald M. and Henrietta Koma.

He and his family lived in Struthers. Don attended Struthers High School, graduating in the class of 1959. He attended Grove City College and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a master’s degree from Westminster College in 1972.

Don taught social studies at Woodrow Wilson High School from 1964 until his retirement in 1995. He coached athletics and was the head basketball coach for years during his teaching career.

After retiring, he continued his teaching at Corrections Corporation of America. He and his wife, Jennifer, moved to Florida in 2004, where he continued his chosen career for another seven years at Lake Weir Middle School in Summerfield, Florida. They also lived in Texas for three years but longed to be “home” and so returned to Ohio in 2017.

Don was an avid sports fan and was faithful to his Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Don and his wife enjoyed traveling, taking several trips to Europe.

Don will be greatly missed by his wife, Jennifer, whom he married Nov. 18, 1988; his sister, Sally Stinson (Bob) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; three sons, Michael (Alex) of Houston, Texas, Jason (Jennifer) of Columbus and Keith (Cari) of Cincinnati. He had eight grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Addison, Connor, Arissa, Aveanna, Chase, Mason, Savannah and Jackson; and a great-grandson, Ollie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Patricia.

Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025, with a service following at 6 p.m., at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
