Richard L. Moy 1946-2025

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — Richard “Rich” Moy 78, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 1, 2025, after a long battle with a rare heart disease, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
Rich proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he was stationed in Vietnam for a year and received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.
Rich was a lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, settling in Cortland before moving to South Carolina. He married his wife, Shirley, in 1966 and together they raised three wonderful sons.
Rich loved all sports.
While living in Ohio, nothing made him happier than a good day on Lake Erie catching walleye. He also enjoyed hunting, watching track and field on TV, and playing golf. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and never failed to watch a game.
After retiring to South Carolina, Rich began working at Willow Creek Golf Course, where he met and maintained some of his most cherished friendships.
Rich was preceded in death by his oldest son, Richard Jr.; and his parents, Jennie and Calvin Moy.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Simpsonville, South Carolina; sons, Michael of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Christopher (Laurie); grandchildren, Mason, Mac and Morgan of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and brother, Gerald of Brookfield.
A gathering and remembrance of his life was held Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr., Greenville, SC 29609, with military honors.
A very special thank you to Agape Hospice for the care and help they provided.
