Mildred M. Demes 1933-2025

“Millie” as she was affectionately known, was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Salem, a daughter of the late Frank C. and Clara E. Barnes McCluggage.

She worked as a private caregiver for most of her adult life. Millie married the love of her life, Robert W. Demes, on Oct. 10, 1948, and together they shared 62 years of marriage and many wonderful memories. He preceded her in death Dec. 4, 2020. Millie was a former member of the Real Life Assembly of God Church in Salem.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing, and most importantly taking care of others. She was a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by four children, Sandra L. (Robert) Hough of Ellsworth, Robert L. (Kris) Demes of Berlin Center, J. Gary (Donna) Demes, also of Berlin Center, and Julie (Pat) Hill of Austintown. She also leaves behind 11 beloved grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, Millie was preceded in death by four brothers, Cloyd, Lee, Leroy and Robert McCluggage; and two sisters, Mary June Diehl and Ruby Rocks.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield, with the Rev. Gary Gray officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Ellsworth Cemetery, Ellsworth Township.
