Michael L. Thompson 1947-2025

POLAND — Michael Lee Thompson, 78, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland.
He was born March 28, 1947, in Warren, a son of Lee and Mary Kay Fischer Thompson. He graduated from Champion High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University.
Michael was a dedicated professional who rose through the ranks to become director of ITT Tech, eventually relocating to Cincinnati on his own for a job promotion, all to provide better opportunities for his family. A man of strength and integrity, he was especially proud of his role as a grandfather, always present and supportive at their sporting events and life milestones.
His interests reflected a life rich in passion and purpose: he collected American Flyer model trains during the winter months and enjoyed golfing in the summer, even accomplishing the rare feat of a hole-in-one.
Life at the lake brought him peace and joy. He and his wife spent countless cherished moments at their Lake Milton home, boating and relaxing with family. He was actively involved in his community as a member of the Austintown Train Association and the Lake Milton Association, and he served faithfully at the polls for the Methodist church, steadily rising to a leadership role. A member of the Holy Family Golf League, he stayed socially and spiritually connected.
Most of all, he will be remembered for the loving devotion he showed to his wife, caring for her selflessly through her final days.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, David (Amy) Thompson and Brian (Amanda) Thompson, both of Poland; grandchildren, Jacob, Aiden and Elliana Thompson; and his brothers, Richard “Dick” (Rhonda) and Robert “Bob” (Wendy) Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” A. Thompson.
Friends will be received 4 to 5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, followed immediately by a funeral service beginning at 6 p.m.
He will be laid to rest privately with his wife in Poland Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514, in his memory.
