Marie D. Harlan 1943-2025

CANFIELD — Marie Daneen Lavigna Harlan, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Born Jan. 30, 1943, in Cleveland, Marie was the beloved daughter of Daniel and Wilma Poggianti Lavigna.
She grew up in Cleveland, graduated from Regina High School and went on to attend Miami University of Ohio. Later in life, Marie returned to school to earn her degree and pursue a career as a paralegal. She specialized in bankruptcy law and worked for the U.S. Trustees’ office in the Federal Court in Phoenix, Arizona, until her retirement.
She was a devoted mother to John “Jack” Mathew Harlan III (Denise), Michael Daniel Harlan (Beth Anne) and Daneen Marie Wilson (Matthew). Her pride extended to her grandchildren — Hannah Elaine Harlan, Duncan William Harlan, Harper Kate Wilson and Hayes Matthew Wilson — as well as five beloved furry grandchildren.
Throughout her children’s lives, Marie was a dedicated and supportive presence. She was actively involved in their many activities, from baseball and softball to Scouts and 4-H. She was also a very proud and enthusiastic (bingo-loving) band parent!
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Daniel Michael Lavigna (Patty); and her sister, Wilma Beatrice Wahl (David).
She is survived by her brothers, William Lavigna and Robert Lavigna (Barbara), and is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a loyal sister and friend, cherished by all who knew her.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, Marie was also a fierce bridge player who relished spirited competition and camaraderie. She led her life by quiet example, instilling integrity and a strong work ethic in everything she did. Marie embraced life’s simple pleasures and never passed up the thrill of a good night at the casino.
A visitation and funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at St. Christine Church in Youngstown, with visitation 10 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
