Larry J. Moon 1948-2025

SOUTHINGTON — Larry J. Moon, 76, made his final journey to rest in peace Friday, June 13, 2025, while at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born Dec. 10, 1948, in Newburg, W.Va., to Henry Junior and Ethel Mae Moon, Larry’s life journey soon took him to Leavittsburg, where he graduated from LaBrae High School in 1966.

After graduation, Larry married Deborah K. Dudley of Niles, and together they raised three children.

He proudly volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam from 1969 to 1971.

Following his honorable discharge, Larry returned home and began an apprenticeship in bricklaying. He joined Bricklayers Union Local 43 and earned his 50-year service pin in 2024.

In 1994, Larry married his second wife, Molly K. Malone of Howland, and welcomed three additional sons into his growing family.

A respected icon in the local construction industry, Larry was frequently seen behind the wheel of his dump truck, operating a backhoe or building custom fireplaces. Monuments to his craftsmanship dot the landscape throughout Northeastern Ohio. More than just a builder, Larry was a teacher, mentor and friend, known for inspiring a new generation of skilled tradespeople. His meticulous attention to detail, “old school” standards, and habit of giving nicknames to those he favored were hallmarks of his personality — a true badge of honor.

Larry cherished family picnics, a well-earned day off and a stiff seven and seven. With his infectious smile, sparkling blue eyes, boundless kindness and quiet patience, Larry exemplified the qualities of a man who placed family above all else.

Godspeed, Larry Moon. By the way, we hear the union won the contract for the new temple in Heaven … Guess that’s why He called you home!

Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Deborah.

He is survived by his second wife, Molly K. Moon; his children, two daughters, Laurie “Monk” (John Taylor) of Muleshoe, Texas, and Stephanie “Nerfy” Moon of Leavittsburg; four sons, John “Toby” Moon of Southington, Caleb “KB” Moon of Warren, Joshua “Chachi” Moon of Leavittsburg and Justin “Pedro” Moon of Warren; sister, Sandra “Sis” Moon of Cortland; and brother, Arthur “Jake” Moon of Leavittsburg. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jace “Booey” Taylor, Lindsey “Lou” Moon, Kyle “Toodle” Stegall, Zach “Wacky” Taylor, Kirsten “Kirdy Bird” Lomax, Ashley “Asher” Moon, Laci “LaceBug” Davis and Rylee “RyBug” Moon; and one great-grandson, Wyatt “lil’ dude” Stegall.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

Larry will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna with full military services.
