John Kraynak 1929-2025

He was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Youngstown, the son of George and Anna Paramucha Kraynak. He was raised on his family’s farm in West Middlesex, Pa.

John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving as a corporal during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, where he served as a radio and wireless operator in the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles,” 28th Recon Company.

He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse, Stoney Hill School, near the family farm in West Middlesex, and graduated from Hubbard High School. He later pursued additional studies at ETI Technical College.

John started his professional career at Youngstown Sheet & Tube and went on to become a co-owner of Bel Park Medical Laboratory. Dedicated to the field of laboratory science, he also served as a board representative for the American Association of Bioanalysts.

John was a man of many passions. He loved polka dancing and was a familiar face on dance floors across town. He had a talent for restoring antique tractors and took great pride in bringing them back to life. He and his wife traveled the world for both business and pleasure, exploring every country in Europe — including Slovenia. In later years, they spent their winters in Florida, enjoying the sunshine and warm community.

John is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Mary Louise “Babe” Candel Kraynak, whom he married on Feb. 23, 1951. He also leaves behind his three children: Shelly (Dave) Pollnow, Cheryl (Mark) Lowney and Jeff (Gail) Kraynak; four cherished grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Nicholas Kraynak; and two sisters, Anna Lombard and Martha.

John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep faith, devotion to family, and unwavering pride in his heritage and service. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched.

John was laid to rest in a private service surrounded by his family.
