Earl H. Smith 1937-2025

Earl was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Youngstown, a son of the late Arthur and Edith Holt Smith, and was a lifelong resident of the area. After graduating from high school, he worked for General Fireproofing Company before serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Europe. Upon returning home, he continued his service in the Army Reserve.

Earl was employed by the former LTV Steel Company until his retirement and later worked for nearly 20 years at Austintown Township Park. He was a former member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and was actively involved in his community, volunteering with the Austintown Historical Society and the Austin Log Cabin.

Earl had a passion for travel, especially trips out West with his beloved wife of 66 years, the former JoAnn M. Pazel. He took great pride in his yardwork and always kept a clean car.

Earl cherished spending time with his family and working side-by-side with JoAnn.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marlana and Andrew Opsitnik; his daughter-in-law, Charisse Smith; three grandsons, Alexander, Nathaniel and Matthew; and two great-granddaughters, Ava and Veda. He also leaves behind two sisters, Helen Baucher and Florence Williams.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Earl was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Arthur H. Smith; and three brothers, Frances Smith, Harry Smith and William Smith.

Private services were held for the family.
