Donna McWilliams 1928-2025

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all ways and He shall direct thy path.”

She was born May 19, 1928, the daughter of Ivan E. Creed and Emma Louise Adaway of Vienna, and had been a resident of Girard since Aug. 28, 1948.

After graduating from Vienna High School in 1946, she attended Youngstown University. It was there that she met her husband, Frederick McWilliams. They married Aug. 28, 1948, at Richard Brown Memorial Church in Youngstown.

She leaves a daughter, Jane Thompson Haddouche, and her husband, Tara of New York City to always cherish her memory.

Donna worked for several years at McKelvey’s in Youngstown before the birth of her daughter; she then dedicated all her time to being a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker, and to community service, excelling at every task she undertook.

Donna was a 79-year member of Sunrise Chapter #458 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a worthy matron in 1959. She gave freely of her time to the Girard area youth, where she was active as a Girl Scout leader for seven years and also as mother advisor in Girard Rainbow Assembly #176, where she received the Grand Cross of Color degree in recognition of her service.

In addition to belonging to several duplicate bridge groups, Donna was a member of the Girard Women’s Literary Club since 1963, holding the office of president among other officer positions several times. She was a Friend of the Girard Public Library and a member of Vienna United Methodist Church at her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Frederick “Mac” McWilliams; and her sister, Doris.

A devoted wife, mother and friend, Donna will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Calling hours will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where there will be an Eastern Star service at 1 p.m., followed by the Rev. Chad Froelich officiating the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent to the memorial fund established in the name of Frederick and Donna McWilliams at Vienna United Methodist Church, 4265 Warren-Sharon Road, P.O. Box 459, Vienna, OH 44473.
