Donald G. Ellis Sr. 1947-2025

Born Aug. 3, 1947, in Youngstown, Donald was the son of the late Edwin and Isabelle Gordon Ellis and was a lifelong resident of the area. A 1966 graduate of Chaney High School, he went on to work as an insurance adjuster for American States Insurance / Safeco Insurance, where he dedicated 30 years before retiring. Donald also served as president of the Youngstown Claims Association for two years.

A passionate sports fan, Donald found great joy in watching football and baseball, always cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Guardians. He was an avid golfer and a devoted NASCAR enthusiast, but nothing brought him more pride and happiness than watching his grandchildren compete in their sporting events.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of over 55 years, Ruthann Fitzgerald Ellis, whom he married Aug. 30, 1969; his daughter, Jennifer (Keith) Tincher of Canfield; two sons, Donald (Amy) Ellis Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Robert (Becky) Ellis of Canfield; and his cherished grandchildren, Brennan (Megan), Jarod, Parker, Neena, Aiden and Isabella. He also leaves behind a sister, Sandra Ellis of Youngstown, and a brother, Robert Ellis of Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Ellis Jr.

Family and friends may call 4 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m.
