Dennis Michael McCarthy 1944-2025
ASHTABULA — Surrounded by family he loved so dearly, Dennis Michael “Mike” McCarthy passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, overlooking the waters of Lake Erie. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he lived a life rich with love, laughter and adventure.
Born in Youngstown and raised on the South Side, Mike was one of 13 siblings, the cherished son of James and Catherine.
He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1962 and attended Youngstown State University before embarking on a successful career. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Industrial Mill Maintenance, a family business that thrived under his dedication and vision.
More than anything, Mike treasured the time spent with his family. He was the devoted husband of Katie McCarthy and proud father to Mike, Jerry, PJ and the late Daniel. His love extended to his stepchildren, Joey Campana, Tina Bengala and Mandy Diaz, along with his sons’ and stepchildren’s spouses, Cindy, Nancy, Julie, Lisa, Meghan, Joe and Kevin. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Liam (wife Kaitlyn), Padraig, Danny, Kathryn, Jessica (husband Josh), Jared, Ben, Megan, Ella, Dominic, Nic, Anthony, Mike (Sierra), Lexi, Vivienne and Lillian; and great-grandchildren, Everleigh and the late James.
A man of deep passions, Mike found joy in his lake house by Lake Erie, his Florida condo, and traveling across the United States and Ireland — a country he held close to his heart. As a proud Irishman, he was honored as the Irishman of the Year in the 1980s and was an active member of the Elks Club. His home was always filled with warmth, laughter and celebration, as he loved hosting and attending gatherings with friends and family.
Mike left an undeniable mark on all who knew him. His kindness, wisdom and unwavering love shaped countless lives, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to call him family and friend. May he rest in peace, forever watching over the waters he adored.
An Irish Blessing: “May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
