Catheryne L. Jones 1931-2025

LOWELLVILLE — Ms. Catheryne L. Jones, 94, transitioned this life peacefully, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle.
Catheryn was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Crossett, Arkansas, the daughter of James and Callie Mitchell Watson. She graduated from T.W. Daniel High School in Arkansas with honors. She was the mother of Patricia, Mary, Alvord, Gary and Michael.
She moved to Youngstown in 1959 and graduated from the Youngstown Police Academy and Peace Officers Training Council in 1979. She was the security manager at the time at McKelvey and Higbee’s Department Store. She was later employed at JCPenney Company and retired in 1995.
During this time, she was a daughter of Elks with the Naomi Temple #124 and Buckeye Lodge #73 of the I.B.P.E.O. Elks of the World. She was also a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church..
She was a well-known sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Browns and the Youngstown State University Penguins.
Catheryn leaves to mourn, her children, Patricia Ellerbe of Youngstown and Alvord Jones of Pennsylvania; her brother, Ronald Watson of Arkansas; her grandchildren, Tonya Dotson of Houston, Texas, Attorney Cybill Dotson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lamont Jones of Youngstown and Geanine Talley of Columbus; her great granddaughter, Vanessa Bobo; and her great-great-grandson, Jeremiah Bobo. She also leaves special family in Baltimore, Maryland, her Jennings family, and a host other family and close friends.
She was met at heaven’s gates by her parents; her stepmother, Rosa Watson; her children, Mary Dotson, Gary and Michael Jones; her grandparents; her brothers, James and Edward Watson; her sister, Elder Louise Penn; and sister-in-law, Gloria Watson.
A homegoing celebration will be held at noon Thursday, June 26, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church, with visitation 11 a.m. to noon.
