Anneliese Wolter 1936-2025

COLUMBIANA — Anneliese “Lisa” Emrich Wolter, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Born on July 10, 1936, in Siebenburgen, Transylvania, Romania, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Maria Broser Emrich.
Lisa spent her early childhood on a large family farm before being forced to flee with her family in September 1944 due to the turmoil of World War II. Traveling by horse and covered wagon through Transylvania, Hungary and Austria, the family endured hardship, harsh weather and bombings, before reaching Hemmersheim, Bavaria, Germany, in May, 1945. They later immigrated to the United States in 1952.
Anneliese embraced her new homeland with love and pride, learning English, studying the U.S. Constitution and proudly becoming a United States citizen.
A devout Christian and active community member, Lisa was a long-time member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, where she volunteered for many years. More recently, she became a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, continuing her deep faith and service to others.
On July 2, 1955, Anneliese married the love of her life, Ernst “Ernie” Wolter, also a German immigrant who settled in Youngstown. Together, they shared nearly 70 years of marriage, filled with many trips around the country, international travels to Europe, frequent family visits and cheering on their favorite football teams — the Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State Buckeyes.
They raised their daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” and Carol, in a loving home centered on family. Growing up, the girls and their parents were very close, which translated into adulthood. Anneliese then lovingly embraced Eugene Sr. (husband to Carol) as her son-in-law and had a special relationship with him. After this, their joy was multiplied with the births of their grandsons, Eugene Jr. and Dante. They shared countless cherished moments with their grandsons, including school functions, sporting events, special celebrations and many vacations — most notably, Disney World. The most recent addition to her family was her granddog, Buster, who brought even more love and laughter into her life. As “Oma and Opa,” Anneliese and Ernst were a constant, loving presence in their grandsons’ lives.
Anneliese was a fiercely dedicated homemaker with a passion for cooking, baking, landscaping, and crocheting afghans. She also enjoyed blueberry picking with her grandsons and daughters each summer. Her warmth, resilience, immense faith and love for family defined her life and inspired those around her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ernst “Ernie” Wolter of Columbiana; daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Wolter and Carol Calabria; cherished son-in-law, Eugene Calabria; and beloved grandsons, Eugene Jr. and Dante Calabria, all of Canfield. She also leaves behind her sister, Sophie Szabo of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Michael Schwartz; her brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Irmgard Emrich; her brother, Michael Emrich; and her brother-in-law, Frank Szabo.
A private service was held by the family.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Inn at Old Saybrook and Ohio Living Hospice for their compassionate care.
Arrangements are being handled by Davis-Becker Funeral Home, Boardman.
