Wilson J. Carlisle 1924-2025

BROOKFIELD — Wilson James “Pete” Carlisle passed away peacefully in his sleep at his son’s home in the early morning hours of Monday, April 28, 2025. He was a remarkably active 100 years old.
Pete was born Aug. 4, 1924, to Franklin and Hazel Zedaker Carlisle in New Bedford, Pa.
Pete graduated from Union High School. He served in the Pacific during World War II, where he was an Army antiaircraft gunner and finished as a corporal. During his first furlough, he married Margaret “Betty” Elizabeth Brown of Pulaski Township, Pa., on Nov. 16, 1943; they lived in New Bedford for 58 years before her passing in 2001.
He was a regular at New Bedford Presbyterian Church until his death. He previously served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Consistory of New Castle, the Syria Shrine, the Legion of Honor and the American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the Hubbard VFW.
He retired from employment at Metal Carbide in Boardman.
Pete is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, James (Margaret) of Burien, Washington, and David (Jane MacPherson) of Brookfield. His legacy lives on through his grandsons, Alan (Megan) of Auburn, Washington, and Brian (Lauren) of Burien, Washington; great-grandsons, Elliot, Samuel and Nathan; four stepgrandchildren, Jay (Ruth), Jennifer (Joachim) Maria (DJ) and Mark (Jolene); seven stepgreat-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In his golden years, Pete was able to reconnect and became dear companions with Virginia “Blue Eyes” Sikora Fluent. They spent 12 years together traveling the world before her passing in 2015. Her family became his, leaving Tiffany (Jord) Fluent-Althuizen of The Hague, Netherlands, and Courtney (Neil) Button of Hubbard, and four great-granddaughters.
Besides his parents and wife, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Paul Carlisle.
At Pete’s request, his body was donated for research to Northeastern Ohio Medical University.
A memorial will be noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 3, 2025, at New Bedford Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
