Roxanne L. Kubala 1958-2025

CANFIELD — Roxanne L. Kubala, 66, was called to her Heavenly Father unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love and boundless generosity.

Born July 24, 1958, in Youngstown, she is the daughter of the late Victoria Wielbruda Kubala and Edward A. Kubala.

Roxanne was predeceased by her parents.

She leaves behind her brother, Brian (Cindy) Kubala; nephews, Daniel (Emma McCowan) and Nicholas; and niece, Marissa (Nicholas) Scafuro. Her great-niece, Mia Rose, was the light of her life.

Known as Aunt Dee Dee to her niece and nephews, she was proud of each one of them and always was a part of all their activities growing up. She loved attending their baseball, basketball, swimming events and school functions. She never missed a Christmas of giving them each an ornament, even as young adults, and would handpick ones that resembled and reminded her of them. She loved following them through their college years and career endeavors. Being an aunt and great-aunt was such an honor and important role to her — she loved being their Aunt Dee Dee. Her devotion to them was limitless and her love will live on in their hearts.

Roxanne also leaves behind many cousins and countless friends who were close to her heart. She also leaves her precious cats, Benny and Jet, who meant the world to her.

She was an active member of St. Patrick Church, a member of the choir and the folk choir, and participated in the bell choir. Her countless devotion to the church included, but was not limited to, the monthly spaghetti dinners and fundraisers.

Roxanne knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. Her commitment to the community was boundless after retirement, volunteering at Angels for Animals and the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry all while fighting through physical handicaps to keep giving back. In 2018, she was recognized as a Hometown Hero, which she was humbled to receive.

Roxanne opened up her heart to organizations, but her true love was even bigger, towards people, never turning her back on anyone. Her compassion and generosity were admired by many and will certainly be missed.

Roxanne earned a black belt in karate and enjoyed water aerobics. In addition, she always enjoyed a good game of cards, especially with family during the holidays.

Her education reflected her dedication to serving others. She was a 1976 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and earned a Diploma of Nursing from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in 1979. Roxanne worked as a registered nurse at the Youngstown Developmental Center for over 30 years, retiring in 2013.

Roxanne had a compassionate nature and her dedication to faith, family and friends is the legacy she leaves behind.

Family and friends will be received at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.

Monetary contributions may be made in Roxanne’s name to Animal Charity of Youngstown, Angels for Animals or Friends of Fido.
