Mary Marzano 1928-2025

NORTH LIMA — Mary Palumbo Marzano, 96, passed away May 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Vito, in July 1988; her son, Charles “Chuckie” 1973; sisters, Concetta and Frances; brothers: Carl, Fred, Frank and Paul; and parents, Charles and Frances Palumbo.
She was a loving mother to Domenic (Martina) Marzano and Vito (Shelly) Marzano; and grandmother to nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom she crocheted blankets for.
Mary was a little lady with a big heart. She is proudly known as the scarf lady. She made them for needy children, family and friends. If you knew Mary, you probably have a scarf; per Mary’s request, she would like you to wear it if possible. It was truly a labor of love celebrating the life of her son Chuckie, who passed away at the age of 21.
Mary, with the support of her husband, sons and community, donated 3 kidney dialysis machines for Northside Hospital in 1974 because the kidney machines were not available in our area. Mary said, “I want no other mother or child to leave this area for treatment.” Family support is everything. It was her way of giving back to the community — the community that rallied and helped raise funds through the Charles Marzano Kidney Fund.
When asked how she would like to be remembered, she replied, “I love God, my three boys and all of my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I enjoy making sauce, afghans and scarves. I made people happy.” No truer words were ever spoken.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Wilkins and Ventura at Assumption Village.
