Mary Manolio 1936-2025

BOARDMAN — Mary Manolio, 88, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at her residence at The Inn at Walker Mill, with her family by her side.
Mary was born May 11, 1936, in Youngstown, to James and Anna Agresta Bertrando.
Mary was a graduate of Ursuline High School and went on to get her registered nursing degree from St. Elizabeth’s nursing school. Mary found her passion working as a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s for several years until it was time to raise her children. Once her children were older, she went back to work as a private duty nurse caring for the elderly and disabled. She went on to work and retired from Macy’s after 18 years. She devoted her retirement to caring for her mother, mother-in-law and husband before each of their passings.
Mary married the love of her life, Jack, in 1958. They were both active and dedicated members of St. Charles Church. They had three children who were the center of their lives.
Mary was the center and rock of her family. She loved taking care of all of her family members, keeping everyone’s belly full with her amazing Italian cooking. She had a way of making everyone feel that her home was their home. Holidays were one of her greatest joys and she often cooked and prepared for days in advance. Italian traditions were paramount to her, and she felt it very important to carry on throughout the generations. But her most cherished title that she held was that of “Nunny” to her six beloved grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her three children, James (Stacey) Manolio of Birmingham, Alabama, Annette (Brian) Delahunty of Canfield and Anthony (Lisa) Manolio of Boardman. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Kristen (Jeffrey) Compton, Kaitlin Manolio, Brittany (Brandon) Doran, Danny Delahunty, Connor Delahunty and Alexis (Ryan) Reese. Mary also leaves two great-grandchildren, Rocco Doran and Giovanni Reese.
Mary is also survived by two sisters, Sylvia Holderer and Palma Kaneda; and a brother, James (Debbie) Bertrando. She leaves many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Bertrando; a sister, Margaret Menduni and her husband, John “Jack” Manolio; and an infant son.
Friends and family may call 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, OH 44512, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Guyla and the staff and friends at The Inn at Walker Mill for their care and kindness over the past seven years, and Francine, Tammy and the staff at Ohio Living Hospice for their superb care.
