John L. ‘Jack’ Chapman 1957-2025

McDONALD — John L. “Jack” Chapman, 67, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, in the comfort of his home.

John was born Dec. 27, 1957, in Newport, Rhode Island, a son of the late Kenneth and Judith Philips Chapman and came to the Youngstown area in 1958.

He was a 1975 graduate of Girard High School and earned an associate degree in applied science from Youngstown State University. He also attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus, where he earned a degree in technology.

In the 1980s, Jack worked as a self-employed carpenter in Texas and South Carolina, building homes for U.S. Homes and other companies. He returned to Girard in 1988 and founded Chapman Renovation, where he specialized in new construction and kitchen and bath remodeling until his retirement.

Jack enjoyed the outdoors, especially golf and hunting. He was an avid stamp and coin collector, loved playing darts and was a longtime member of the Youngstown Dart Association. He also enjoyed weekly video game nights with friends, Joe and Kevin, watching classic films, and cheering for the Cleveland Indians and Browns. A curious mind, he kept up with current affairs and liked “dabbling” in the stock market.

Jack is survived by his sisters, Kathy Chapman and Karen (Frank) Cretella, both of Girard; a nephew, Frank Cretella Jr. (Nicole Birrell); a niece, Katie Cretella; and two great-nephews, Dominick and Anthony. He also leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects 5:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at Girard First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., Girard, where a memorial service will take place at 6 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
