John J. Seman Jr. 1938-2025

STRUTHERS — John J. Seman Jr, 86, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Hampton Woods, with his loving family by his side.

Born June 23, 1938, in Youngstown, he was a son of the late John and Mary Gbur Seman. A lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley, John was a hardworking man who spent many years as a millwright in the steel industry. Though he did not graduate high school, his intelligence, skill and determination earned him the reputation of a true jack-of-all-trades.

John was a proud member of Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church, where his faith played a central role in his life. He had a deep love for the outdoors — hunting, fishing and boating on Lake Erie were among his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed riding his Suzuki trike and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite sports teams, including those of his grandchildren. Above all, he cherished his role as a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

On Dec. 14, 1957, John married the love of his life, Nora Byers. Together, they shared nearly 60 years of marriage until her passing, March 7, 2017.

John is survived by his three daughters, Beverly (Chris Donatelli) Bodnar of Struthers, Cindy Duraney of Campbell and Terri (Frank) Austrino of Poland; his five beloved grandchildren, Robert (Danielle) Bodnar Jr., Jessica (Richie) Powell, Cristin Duraney, Carrie (Shawn) Winans and Alyssa Austrino; and five great-grandchildren, Damien Cox, Richie Powell IV, Layla Powell, RJ Bodnar and Nico Bodnar.

He also leaves behind his brothers, Richard (Sue Frederico) Seman of Girard, Robert (Kathy) Seman of Youngstown and Thomas (Reba Soldressen) Seman of Struthers; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Nora June Winans; his son-in-law, Dave Duraney; and his brother, Paul Seman.

Family and friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers.

John will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery in Lowellville.
