Erin A. Carney-Chizmar 1958-2025

Erin was born May 3, 1958, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late William D. and Therese Whalen Carney, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1976 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and worked as a pharmacy technician for various local medical facilities, including Sharon Regional Hospital.

She was a member of St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church in Austintown and enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time at the beach. Above all, Erin cherished time with her grandchildren.

Erin is survived by her six children, Justin (Stephanie) Burgy of Austintown, Jacob Burgy of Newton Falls, Kelly (Aaron) Tate of Austintown, Hannah Chizmar of Youngstown, Geniene (Thomas) Hankey of Youngstown and Thomas (Ryan) Chizmar of Parma Heights; and nine grandchildren, Anson Hankey, Dominic Martucci, Aidan Hankey, Caleb Daugherty, Scarlet Burgy, Camren Daugherty, Christian Burgy, Greyson Burgy and Julian Tate.

Erin also leaves her siblings, Mary Pat Gilboy of Youngstown, William (Mary) Carney of Poland and Barbara Carney of Mesa, Arizona.; a sister-in-law, Michelle Carney of Cleveland; and many extended family members.

Her husband of 28 years, Thomas J. Chizmar, whom she married Oct. 16, 1993, died March 17, 2022. In addition to her husband and parents, Erin was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Burgy; and a brother, Terry Carney.

Family and friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, at the funeral home, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
