Charles L. Jacobson 1931-2025

LOWELLVILLE — Charles Lloyd “Chuck” Jacobson, 93, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

He was born June 1, 1931, in Lawrence County, Pa., where he was raised by his grandparents. He graduated from Union High School and worked as both a farmer and, later on, as a carpenter.

He met and married the love of his life, the former Phyllis Arp, on May 2, 1953, and was just a week shy of celebrating their 72nd anniversary.

Chuck lived a life full of hard work, family and adventure. Growing up on a farm, he then found work at Villa Maria. Though life took him in different directions, his farming roots stayed with him. He was a talented carpenter and mechanically inclined, traits that served him well over the years. He worked at Sears, drove a school bus, and even led the largest group of Boy Scouts in Lowellville as its Scout master, always finding ways to stay involved in his community.

Later, he spent at least a decade working for Becker Funeral Homes, all while keeping himself constantly busy — he was never one to just sit and watch television. Known as a true jack-of-all-trades, he was the go-to guy whenever something needed fixing. His hands were always busy, whether it was working on projects, hunting, shooting trap, or riding motorcycles and dirt bikes. He was a member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club, where he shared his passion for the outdoors with friends and family.

More than anything, Chuck had a huge heart. He acted as a surrogate father to his son-in-law, Joseph, and loved nothing more than spending time camping, dancing every Saturday night with his wife and living life to the fullest. His energy, skills and spirit left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Phyllis; his daughters, Karen (Joseph) Speziale of Lowellville, Diane Maizel of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Susan Shuluga of Lowellville; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Schiraldi of Canfield, Joseph Charles Speziale of Poland, Kristin (Ryan) Sanderson of Elizabethtown, Matthew (Danielle Lagendre) Maizel of Hubbard and Corey (Bethaney) Maizel of Eugene, Oregon; his great-grandchildren, Kenley, Lincoln, Victor, Levon, Joey, Ezekiel, Jackson and Naomi; and his lifelong friend, George Huncik.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Manning, and his sons-in-law, Thomas Shuluga and Doug Maizel.

A memorial celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Mahoning Presbyterian Church, 4401 Skyhill Drive, Pulaski, PA 16143. He will be laid to rest in Lowellville Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff and doctors with Patriot Hospice for their compassionate care of Chuck in his time of need.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville. Please visit www.beckerobits.com to send the family condolences and share your memories.
