Br. Louis A. Petruska 1931-2025

He was predeceased by his parents, Geza and Barbara Ann Petruska; sister, Barbara Petruska Chismar; and brother-in-law, Anthony “Tony” M. Chismar Sr.

He is survived by his niece, Barbara Lias of Youngstown; nephews, William (Linda) Chismar, James (MaryEllen) Chismar, Robert Chismar and Anthony (Judy) Chismar Jr.; two great-nieces and three great-nephews; and his fellow brothers at the Abbey of the Genesee.

Brother Louis was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Youngstown, the son of Geza Adalbert and Barbara Ann Minehart Petruska. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Brother Louis earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in education with a specialization in guidance. He was a high school mathematics teacher at Cardinal Mooney High School from 1963 to 1979. Brother Louis then devoted himself to the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard on March 27, 1980.

A ceremony for the reception of Brother Louis’ body was held Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Abbey of the Genesee, where his funeral Mass was held Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Burial is in Abbey of the Genesee Cemetery.
