Alfred E. Hammar 1933-2025

GODWIN, N.C. — Alfred Eugene Hammar, 91, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025.
Alfred was born June 15, 1933, in Youngstown, to Wilford and Ruth Hammar. He led a very fulfilling life.
He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955, serving during the Korean War.
He was married to his wife, Linda, for 48 years until she passed away in 2019.
Alfred was a proud member of Grace Church in the Mountains in Waynesville, North Carolina, as well as the American Legion.
Alfred was a jokester, always pulling someone’s leg, and his sister-in-law, Sherry, fell for it every time. He also enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife; his brother, Robert Hammar; and his son, Terry Hargis.
He is survived by his sons, Alfred (Dian) Hammar Jr., Michael (Teresa) Hammar; his daughters, Michelle (Alessandro) Hammar-Sabatelli and Margo Hammar; as well as 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Alfred will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Grace Church in the Mountains, 394 N. Haywood St., Waynesville, NC 28786.
Following the service, his family invites you to a reception in Thatcher Hall at the church.
