Alexander R. Dankovich 1949-2025
CANFIELD — Alexander R. “Alex” Dankovich, 75, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 7, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Born May 28, 1949, in Sharon, Pa., Alex was the son of the late Sandor and Helen Kish Dankovich.
A lifelong area resident, he grew up in Brookfield and graduated from Brookfield High School in 1967. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Youngstown State University. Alex began his career as an international salesman for the former Commercial Shearing, where he worked for 10 years. He later became a practice manager for several large medical practices before owning and operating WIN, a home inspection company, for a decade prior to retiring.
Alex was a passionate pool player and avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. He enjoyed watching game shows and spending time outdoors.
Alex was known for his jokes and his sense of humor and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diane M. Gentzy Dankovich, whom he married Oct. 27, 1979; his children, Attorney John A. Dankovich of Sunbury and Dr. Laura S. Dankovich (Jeremy Obee) of Columbus; and two cherished granddaughters, Grace and Violet. He also leaves behind his sister, Suzanne (Paul) Pillitteri of Alabama; brother-in-law, Karl Torma of Brookfield; sisters-in-law, Linda Gentzy of North Lima and Susan (David) Porter of Naples, Florida; as well as nieces and nephews, Janine Pillitteri, Paul Pillitteri, Lisa Fischer, Michele Torma, Laura Rataj and Kevin Porter.
Besides his parents, Alex was preceded in death by a son, David Dankovich; a sister, Loretta Torma; and a brother-in-law, Steven Gentzy.
Family and friends may call 4 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
