Shirley L. Wood 1945-2025

Born Aug. 17, 1945, in Youngstown, to the late Wilfred and Dorothy Harris Wood, Shirley embodied resilience and determination.

A 1962 graduate of Hubbard High School, she thrived in various roles, including running the office at Green Valley Turf Company until her retirement in August 2007. Her passion for beauty led her to obtain her beautician’s license, and she delighted in doing hair for numerous clients from her home. She also worked in the accounting department for Hill Barth & King.

Above all, Shirley treasured her family as a loving sister and aunt and will be profoundly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Surviving are her sister, Carol J. Smith (Gary Smith); brother, David (Linda) Wood; several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and her very dear friends, Becky Berry and Kim Blazek.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Robert Wood; brother-in-law, Charles Smith; her life partner, Virginia “Gina” Mathey; longtime friend, Char “CeCe” Cole; and her lovable fur babies, Toby, Scooter and Mandy.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Lake Park Cemetery Chapel, 1459 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, OH 44506.

Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
