WILDFLOWER WALK: The Friends of Poland Municipal Forest will present its Spring Wildflower Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday at the College Street entrance to the Forest. INNER PEACE: The public is invited to attend a five-week course on inner peace 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Unity Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty. The course will include discussion on how to have peace in your inner life and daily experiences. There will be a $45 fee for the five weeks beside the free-will offering. The course examines the book, “The I of the Storm: Embracing Conflict, Creating Peace,” by Gary Simmons. Class discussion will include ideas and guidance on how to adopt more peace in your inner life, as well as in daily experiences. All students are recommended to have a copy of the book and have read chapter one prior to the first class. The book is available on Amazon and other retailers. HISTORY OF NEW MIDDLETOWN: The Springfield Township Historical Society will present its second program of the season at 2 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 14188 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, state Route 170. The program is “The History of New Middletown” by Walter Raub, who will discuss one of the village’s founding families. The event is free.
SOCIETY TO MEET: The Mahoning County chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. today in the ministry building of St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman.”Using DNA for Genealogy” will explore the types of DNA tests available and provide guidance on how to interpret results to enhance family history research. Whether a beginner or an experienced genealogist, this presentation will offer valuable insights into using DNA as a tool for uncovering ancestral roots.

CONCERT EVENT: The Canfield Community concert band will present a special tribute concert, “Salute to Squire: Memories of the Warren Junior Military Band,” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Zion Community Church, 3300 Canfield Road in Youngstown.
Admission to the concert is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods or monetary donations to support the food ministry at the church.
WOMEN ON TARGET: A Women on Target instructional shooting clinic will be Saturday at the Training Range 4445 Mahoning Ave. Austintown. Cost is $75.

SCHOLARSHIP: The Quota Club of Salem will award the annual $500 Mona McArtor Scholarship to a high school student from Salem, Beaver Local, Lisbon, Louisville, Sebring or West Branch, going into an undergraduate or graduate level program and pursuing a career in the speech / language pathology and / or audiology or deaf education.
Application forms are available in the guidance offices of the schools or by calling Ann Smith at 330-831-1019.
Application and two faculty reference letters are due no later than Monday. The scholarship will be awarded in early June.

BEEKEEPERS TO MEET: The Columbiana and Mahoning County Beekeepers Association will meet 2 p.m. Sunday at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Dr.
Don Kovach will discuss the process of retrieving swarms and the proper tools and equipment that is necessary for safe retrievals, and methods of preventing swarms.
A social potluck is 1 p.m. Anyone interested in beekeeping is welcome.

HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE: The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will hold its annual Holocaust commemoration programs for Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) on Sunday and Tuesday.
The annual Shoah Memorial Ceremony will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane. The 32nd annual Community Holocaust Commemoration event will be at noon Tuesday in the rotunda of the Mahoning County Courthouse, 120 Market St. Both programs are free and open to the public.
Winners of the council’s student Holocaust writing and multimedia contest will be recognized at the courthouse commemoration. The JCC ceremony will feature video clips of Holocaust survivors with connections to the Valley. A memorial candle lighting ceremony to honor the 6 million who perished will be part of both events.
Other programs include a showing of “The Commandant’s Shadow” at 5:30 p.m. today and a Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center exhibit in the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Art Gallery in the JCC.
MAY DAY CELEBRATION: Youngstown’s May Day Fest will hold its annual celebration from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave. The event is free to the public.
AMERICORPS VOLUNTEERS TO BE HONORED: Senior volunteers with the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents program will be honored at a special recognition from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown. The theme is “We Treasure Our Volunteers.” The foster grandparents program connects seniors age 55 and older with the opportunity to provide mentorship tutoring and support to children and youth. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best pirate gear.

ANIMAL BABY SHOWER: Mill Creek MetroParks will present its annual Farm Animal Baby Shower from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield.
This free, family-friendly program allows those attending to meet the newest arrivals at the MetroParks Farm, including goats, piglets, calves, chicks, ducklings and more. Guests will also be able to see mother animals who are still expecting. A sheep-shearing demonstration will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FUNDRAISER EVENT: Friends of Fido will host the 12th annual spring vendor sale which will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield. The event will include vendors and crafters, photo opportunities with bunnies and a basket raffle. Friends of Fido is an advocacy group for the Mahoning County dog pound.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION NOMINEES: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will be presenting its annual Historic Preservation Awards for outstanding revitalization projects and for people who have an impact on preservation in the local community.

CAREER CENTER OPEN HOUSE: The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center Adult Career Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield, will host a spring open house at 6 p.m. today. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the campus and explore all the training programs offered at the center. Guests also will meet special guests from the Canine Campus Training and Wellness Center, who will bring trained pups to help welcome all visitors.
LOCAL AUTHOR SPEAKS: Author Alice Crosetto, who wrote the book “The Cookie Table: A Steel Valley Tradition,” will speak at the Boardman Historical Society’s monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. James Meeting House at Boardman Park.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY EVENT: The Springfield Township Historical Society’s first program of the 2025 season will be guest speaker Youngstown State University Professor Tom Delvaux at 2 p.m. Sunday at the society’s museum, 13188 Youngstown Pittsburgh Road in Petersburg. SUPERNATURAL OHIO: The Girard Free Library will present “Mothman and Other Winged Cryptids of the Ohio Valley,” at 1 p.m. Saturday. The program for adults 19 and older features guest speaker Brian Seech discussing the strange, supernatural side of the Ohio Valley. He will explain local legends and firsthand accounts of Mothman and other winged cryptids rumored to haunt our skies.
ROTARY FLAG PROGRAM: The Girard Liberty Rotary recently partnered with the Girard Junior High School Builders Club to assemble flags in preparation for the Rotary flag program. Girard and Liberty residents can purchase a flag for their yards. Rotary members will install the flags from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. Proceeds will be used to support community projects in Girard and Liberty.
