Betsy B. Bovo 1940-2025

Patty was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Hillsville, Pa., a daughter to the late Pete and Rose Maravola Messina.

Patty worked as a State Tested Nursing Assistant for Maplecrest Nursing Home for 44 years until her retirement in 2014, expressing her tender love and care to each resident during her time there. She was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.

An avid flower and vegetable gardener, she often shared her tomatoes and peppers with her family. She often looked forward to traveling to Sugar Creek with Nancy enjoying the sights and shops, trips to the beach with her friend Peggy and listening to her favorite Italian music.

She cherished her moments of being a loving Mom and Grammy to her family most of all, whether it was watching the Struthers Fourth of July Parade that passed by her home or hosting family dinners. Patty’s overall love for her family was evident in each moment.

She is survived by her two sons, Lawrence J. (Donna Bigley) Bovo Jr. of Struthers and Steven (Sammy) Bovo of Austintown; three granddaughters, Andrea (Mark) Mehalco of Poland, Ashley (Dallas) Bigley of Struthers and Brittany (Steve) Krohn of Poland; great-grandchildren, Bella and Madelyn Mehalco, and Scarlett and Memphis Bigley; along with her longtime friend, Bruno; and of course her favorite granddog, Gus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin L. Bovo; sisters, Mary Arp, Shirley Olivo and Judy Landsdowne; and brothers, James and Michael Messina.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon, Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, OH 44471.
