Michael W. Schudel 1959-2025
COLUMBUS — It is with love and great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael W. Schudel at age 66. Mike passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Michael was born in Cleveland and was the son of Art and Edna O’Brien Schudel.
He ran collegiate track at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, where he shined as a member of the track and field program while studying audiology.
It didn’t take long for Michael to return to the sport he loved, as he became head coach of the St. Charles Borromeo School track team in Boardman, taking the Lions to several league titles during his tenure as head coach.
In conjunction with his success in athletics, he enjoyed a long career with State Farm Insurance, where he served as a member of the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) and was a Catastrophe Claim Representative, aiding customers in their greatest time of need. He enjoyed his time with State Farm immensely, earning several key designations as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Life Underwriter. He became a member of the Chartered Financial Consultant and Fellow Life Management Institute and earned a professional certification in life underwriting.
Mike was a devoted brother, father and friend. He will always be remembered for being a passionate person, a strong leader and possessing a larger-than-life personality. He found joy in helping those around him succeed, often offering words of encouragement or advice to his loved ones to take on exciting challenges or make a career change. Mike’s kindness, intelligence and trademark sense of humor will be missed by many.
He leaves behind his son, Ralph; daughter, Sarah; brother, Patrick (Debbie); nephew, Patrick (Tina); niece, Amy (Tim); nephews, Cody and Wyatt; stepsisters, Carol and Mary; as well as trusted friend, Jan.
On behalf of Michael, his family would like to thank Dr. Sai Punjala, Sam, Issac, the team at Hospice of Central Ohio and the entire team at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center for the outstanding care and compassion they demonstrated during Michael’s hospital stay. They would also like to thank Dr. Kristy McCray and Dr. Heather Bartlett for being a valued resource and remaining alongside us every step of the way.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2025, at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E. Dublin Granville Road, New Albany, OH 43054.
Services will conclude with interment in Union Cemetery in Columbus.
