Lawrence Sheets 1948-2025

Larry was born in Youngstown, Oct. 16, 1948, and was a graduate of Chaney High School. He married Mary Jo Wrona in June 1971. They spent 53 wonderful years together and loved spending time with their three children, four grandchildren and all of their family. Larry worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Syro Steel.

Larry was a devoted family man, cherished by his children and grandchildren, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was the loving husband of the late Mary Jo Sheets, who passed away in January 2024.

Larry never missed any of his grandchildren’s games, activities and concerts. He and Mary Jo frequently traveled to the beach, cruises and Las Vegas with their children and grandchildren. Larry’s greatest joy was being a father to Donna, Joe and Laura, and a grandfather to Hope, Ryan, Caleb and Ethan, whom he adored more than anything and always made time for. He always put his family first above all else. Larry volunteered for all of his children’s sports and activities growing up, as well as St. Anne’s bingo and festival.

Larry is survived by his three children, Donna (Mark) Zagotti of Canfield, Joseph Sheets of Austintown and Laura (John) Host of Mineral Ridge. He leaves his four beloved grandchildren, Hope, Ryan, Caleb and Ethan; his sisters, Mary Gessner and Carol Harvischak; and brother, John Gengenbacher.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jo (Wrona) Sheets; his parents, Marjorie and Merle Sheets; his brother, James Gengenbacher; and his sister, Kathie Sheets Cerny.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2025, at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, with a prayer service to follow at 11 a.m.
