Johanne was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late William and Diane Marsch Priore, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a proud graduate of Chaney High School and attended Youngstown University.
Jo dedicated 30 years of her career as an accountant for William DePiore CPA before retiring in 1986. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Country Gardens and continued at County Gardens until 2004.
Mrs. Edel was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish-St. James Church in North Jackson. She served on the finance committee and as the secretary of parish council. Jo also led St. James Catholic Charities for three years, giving generously of her time and talents to her church community.
Active in many organizations, Jo was a member of the Reserve Air Force Officers Ladies Auxiliary and a trustee of the Western Reserve Village at the Canfield Fairgrounds for many years. She was deeply involved with the Holborn Herb Growers Guild for 27 years, serving as both treasurer and president.
Jo’s passion for gardening was recognized through her Ohio State Master Gardener certification and her role as a master gardener at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Jo had a creative spirit and loved crafting, especially floral arrangements. She enjoyed shopping for clothes, had a deep love for animals and was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Traveling with her husband was one of her greatest joys, and she treasured family gatherings at the pool, backyard BBQs and “Sunday Funday” spaghetti dinners.
Johanne leaves behind her daughter, Theresa (Mark) Young of Ellsworth; her beloved grandson, Nicholas (Shannon) Young of Austintown; and her precious great-grandson, Connor Young. She is also survived by her niece, Megan Priore; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her husband of 52 years, Robert P. Edel, whom she married June 1, 1957, died Nov. 5, 2009. A brother, William Priore, also preceded Jo in death.
