Cynthia J. McGouldrick 1961-2025

LEETONIA — Cynthia J. “Cindy” McGouldrick, 64, formerly of Youngstown, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Hospice House, following a lengthy battle with COPD.

Cynthia was born Jan. 29, 1961, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of David McGouldrick Sr. and Darlene Edmiston McGouldrick. She moved to the Youngstown area as a child, where she would later meet the love of her life, Joseph Matyi. Cindy and Joseph were married and together they had two daughters, Michelle and Kimberly.

Cindy was the heart and soul of her family — a dedicated, loving and compassionate woman who always put the needs of others before her own. Her family was her greatest joy and she loved them fiercely and unapologetically. She was an exceptional mother — kind, patient, and always there for her children and grandchildren. Cindy had a generous spirit and a warmth that made everyone feel welcomed and loved.

A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Cindy never missed a game and enjoyed cheering them on with her family. She also found joy in playing “Zelda” and watching ID Discovery and competitive baking shows with her daughter. But above all, Cindy treasured the moments spent with her family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Cindy is survived by her mother, Darlene Battagline of Youngstown; her father, David McGouldrick Sr. of Pennsylvania; her daughter, Kimberly (David) Hostutler of Leetonia, with whom she made her home; four grandchildren, Brittany Matyi, Paul (Dominique) Fox, Savannah Fox and Tyler Matyi; two great-grandchildren, Bentley Rosenberg and Dawson Estep; her brother, David (Patty) McGouldrick II of Youngstown; nieces, Melissa (TJ) Klopta and Christina McGouldrick; a nephew, David McGouldrick III; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen; and daughter, Michelle Matyi; her grandmother, Martha Edmiston; and her uncle, Butch Edmiston.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, Youngstown, where a memorial service will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Cindy’s strength, love, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will be a blessing and a comfort in the days to come.
