Barbara Ann O’Hara 1943-2025

CONCORD TOWNSHIP — Barbara Ann Moss O’Hara passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.

Born and raised in Youngstown on Oct. 16, 1943, Barbara recently moved to Concord Township to be closer to her family.

She was a member of the Silver Sneakers at the Lake County YMCA and enjoyed lunches out with other area seniors.

A 1961 graduate of East High School, Barb attended Youngstown State University before marrying her soulmate, Jerry, with whom she had two sons.

She was employed at the American Red Cross, was an owner / operator of the Furniture Hospital (an upholstery and woodworking shop) and later retired as a legal secretary from the Cafaro Co.

Along with her husband, Barbara was very active within her community. She volunteered at the Mahoning Valley Second Harvest Food Bank, the Garden District Neighborhood Association and was a swimming instructor for the Red Cross for many years at Borts Pool in Youngstown. Most recently, she l

oved helping her cousin, Mary Lou Godleski, give guided tours of the Moss Ancestral Home in Mineral Ridge.

She was also an accomplished seamstress and quilt maker and was passionate about teaching her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and anyone else who was interested, how to sew. She was kind and gentle and loved visits from friends and any family gatherings, large or small. She was fascinated with her genealogy and researched it endlessly, enjoyed working puzzles and reading.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Paul O’Hara and Patrick (Linda) O’Hara; grandchildren, Hayley (Trent) Dysert, Robert and Matthew O’Hara, and Nicholas, Samantha and Sophia O’Hara; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Rowan Dysert; brother, William (Margaret) Moss; sisters- in-law, Maureen Joseph, Melanie (Larry) Cronk and Rosemary O’Hara; brothers-in-law, Robert O’Hara and Timothy (Denise) O’Hara; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, Paul and Anne Ischkum Moss, Barb was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald “Jerry” O’Hara; daughter-in-law, Rena O’Hara; brother, Jack Moss; brothers-in-law, Daniel O’Hara and Edward Joseph; sister-in-law, Nancy O’Hara; in-laws, Robert and Hazel O’Hara; and her beloved canine companions, Sandy and Bella.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, and from 10 until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, Ohio 44471.
