Arthur Kourian 1927-2025

HUBBARD — Arthur Kourian, 97, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at Austintown Healthcare Center.

Art was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, a son of Harry and Yeranouhi Sanossian Kourian.

He spent time in New York and later in California before coming to Hubbard.

He was a technical writer in the aerospace industry for many years, retiring in 1991.

Art was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hubbard Community Fund, past president of Hubbard Kiwanis Club, Hubbard Gridiron Club and a volunteer at the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. He enjoyed playing tennis and baseball, and had played in the minor leagues, and enjoyed traveling.

Art was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, and was the last World War II veteran in Hubbard. He was also a member of The American Legion in Hubbard, where he had served as past commander.

Art will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family: his wife, the former Phyllis D. Ponzio, whom he married April 9, 1985; his daughter, Sarah Kourian of Hubbard; and stepdaughters, Amanda (Shawn) Marcello of Hubbard, Courtney (Geoff) Helmlinger of Hinckley; and four grandchildren, Shawn A. Marcello, Addison Helmlinger, Alyssa Marcello and Evan Helmlinger; and four nieces, Sandra Shingleton, Karen Jechort, Pamela Vick and Christine Fholer.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers; his sister, Pauline Vick; and a nephew, Robert Vick.

There will be a memorial service 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, with calling hours 3 to 5 p.m., at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.
