Robert D. Rhoads Jr. 1955-2025
YOUNGSTOWN — Robert David Rhoads, Jr., 70, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 14, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Robert was born Jan. 24, 1955, in Youngstown, a son of the late Robert and Gwendolyn Martin Rhoads.
Robert was a graduate of Boardman High School, Class of 1973. He attended Youngstown State University and later, Northern Virginia Community College.
In 1975, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for nine years. He was a computer programmer at Andrews Air Force Base at the time of his honorable discharge in 1984, after which he continued in that same position as a subcontractor for SHL System House under contract with the US Treasury Department. Robert returned to the Youngstown area in 1989 and worked as a foreman and press supervisor for Calex Corp.
An avid fisherman, Robert loved fishing in the bays of California, the Chesapeake Bay, the Great Lakes, the five lakes in the valley and the Mahoning River. He also enjoyed watching football.
He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Rapone; his siblings, Kathleen (Ralph) Fellows of Niles, Matthew (Denise) Rhoads of Struthers and Aimee (Timothy) Hum of Canfield; his sons, Bruce (Linda), Robert III and Brock (Stacy Klazon) of Struthers; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his aunt, Carol Martin of Youngstown.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Melanie Gravelle.
A private graveside service will be held at Church Hill Cemetery.
