Peggy Lesigonich 1929-2025

BOARDMAN — Peggy Taafe Lesigonich passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, Jan. 30, 2025, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center, with her beloved daughters by her side, holding her hand as she completed her journey home.

Peggy was born in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Richard and Cecelia McClusky Taafe. She was a proud graduate of Villa Marie High School in Pulaski, Pa., and a cherished member of the Boardman community for many years.

A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Peggy centered her life around her family, always serving as a source of love, comfort and guidance.

She worked for over two decades at the Giant Eagle bakery in Boardman, where she formed lasting friendships and brightened the lives of many.

Mrs. Lesigonich was a faithful and active member of St. Dominic Church in Youngstown. Peggy made her first communion there and remained a dedicated parishioner. Her faith was her foundation, offering strength and guidance to her throughout her life.

Peggy’s greatest joy was found in her home and family. Known affectionately as “a pillar of strength,” she created a haven filled with love, laughter and tradition. Her family will always cherish memories of her baking kolachi, crafting pies and decorating her home for the holidays. She enjoyed watching classic black and white movies, sitting on her deck and front porch, and relaxing in her sunroom, marveling at the beauty of nature and the animals that visited her yard.

Peggy is survived by her loving daughters, Peggy (Chris) Smith of Milan and Debbie (TJ) Campana of Struthers; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sisters, Joanne Yasher of Hubbard and Jennet Pozzuoli of Orlando, Florida; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

Her husband of 68 years, Paul Lesigonich, whom she married Sept. 18, 1948, at Villa Marie Church, died April 11, 2017. Peggy was also reunited with her daughter, Joyce Padavick; her son, Paul Richard Lesigonich; her sister, Cecelia “Norene” Penwell; and her brother, Richard Taafe.

Peggy’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center for their exceptional care and kindness.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m.

May Peggy’s legacy of love, strength and devotion continue to inspire all who knew and loved her, and may her memory be eternal.
