Lidia Janczewski 1928-2025
YOUNGSTOWN — Lidia Janczewski, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Windsor House in Canfield.
Lidia was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Smerek, Poland, a daughter of Jan and Ksenia Gorniak Polak.
She came from Europe in the 1950s, moving to the Youngstown area from New York.
She married the love of her life, Jan Janczewski, on July 26, 1950, and they shared 50 years of marriage until his passing, Dec. 14, 2000.
Lidia was a homemaker and a former member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Youngstown, where she was a member of the Holy Rosary Society and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. Lidia was also a pierogi pincher at the church.
Lidia loved playing 500 rummy, and she enjoyed her outings at the casino. She loved playing bingo, and when she would hit she would yell “Bingo! Bingo!” which she was known for.
She will be deeply missed and always remembered by her son, Edward (Julie) Janczewski of Boardman; her daughter, Jennie Janczewski of Canfield; her grandson, John “Janji” Janczewski of Boardman; two great-granddaughters, Frankie and Alex Janczewski of Cleveland; her sister, Jennie Fryda of Boardman; and many nieces and nephews.
Lidia was preceded in death by her husband, Jan; her parents; and two sisters, Frances Maszczak and Zofia Jacobs.
The Janczewski family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home in Boardman.
Calling hours will be 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., officiated by Fr. Brian Cline.
Lidia will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
