Gerald D. Goist 1941-2025

Gerald was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of the late James and Gwendolyn Lennous Goist.

A lifelong resident of the area, he graduated from South High School and began his career at Aadams Appliance before dedicating 30 years of service as a custodian in the Austintown School System, working at Fitch High School and Davis Elementary School until his retirement in 2004.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy, embodying the values of dedication and service throughout his life.

Beyond his career, he had a passion for golf and was a talented woodworker and carpenter, crafting pieces with skill and care. A devoted sports fan, Jerry was an avid supporter of the Cleveland Indians, always cheering on his beloved Tribe through every season.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Debbie Neff Goist, whom he married Feb. 10, 1979; his son, Christopher Goist of Boardman; three nephews, Gerald Keehner, the Rev. John Keehner and Richard Keehner; and a niece, Carol Hicks, who all affectionately called him “Uncle Joe.”

Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, James Goist; his sister, Betty Keehner; and two nephews, James and Edward Goist.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a memorial service will take place at 6 p.m., officiated by his nephew, the Rev. John Keehner.
