Joyce Ann Berchik 1941-2025

COITSVILLE — Joyce Ann Berchik, 83, died peacefully in her recliner, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Aventura Assumption Village, after a long battle with breast cancer and heart issues.

Joyce was born in Youngstown, Sept. 27, 1941, the daughter of the late Joseph and Nora Joyce Sudol.

She attended St. Ann Catholic Grade School and graduated from Ursuline High School. Joyce worked at Strouss Department Store in downtown Youngstown and later as a receptionist for Dr. JR Malkoff, DDS.

Joyce was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish. She loved to vacation in Myrtle Beach every year with her husband. She loved cats, especially her cat, O’Riley, whom she lost in 2022. She also enjoyed watching her outdoor cats play outside.

Joyce loved her Irish Heritage; she was so proud of that. Joyce worried about everyone, even people she just met. She was a very kind, caring and spiritual person.

Her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her daughter and son. She was so very proud of them.

Joyce leaves her dear daughter, Laurie (Michael) Krulich in Macedonia; dear son, Andrew T. (Cynthia) Berchik in Lake Havasu City, Arizona; sister-in-law, Patricia (Frits) Meijer in Pasadena, Maryland; and her godson, Raymond (Lori) Calcagni from Struthers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Andrew J. Berchik Jr., whom she married Sept. 30, 1961, and who died June 23, 2018; her brother, Charles (Rosemary) Sudol; and two sisters, Dorothy Sudol and Mary Lou Sudol Donarummo.

She also leaves behind many cousins, friends and neighbors whom she truly loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, at Christ Our Savior Parish-Holy Trinity Church. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery.

In lieu of Masses or flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to either: Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406; or The Susan G Komen fund for the cure of breast cancer, www.komen.org.
