Freddie Napolitano Jr. 1952-2025
CANFIELD — On Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, Freddie Napolitano Jr., 72, passed away peacefully at home.
He was born in Youngstown, Sept. 23, 1952, to Fred Steven and Bette Rae Miller Napolitano. Freddie grew up in Austintown, graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1968, then attended and completed his training at the Victor George Beauty Academy.
He began his career at Richard Ombres, Top of the Eastwood Mall in Niles. In 1981, Freddie opened his own establishment, “Freddies, A Solon” in the Paris tradition. He spent the last four years of his extensive career at Tara Mia Salon in Warren, retiring in 2020.
Freddie is survived by his husband, Theodore N. Zoumis, whom he married Sept. 21, 2015. Freddie and Ted were together for 43 years. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary (Tom) Sferro; sisters-in-law, Anna (Gust) Klimis, Chris Trikilis, Angie (Rick) Milano, Kelly Valva, Maria (Steve) Lyras and Nancy Billiris; 23 nieces and nephews; and 36 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his siblings, Steven (the late Marsha) Napolitano and James Napolitano.
For 40 years, Freddie was not just a hairstylist; he was a confidant, a friend and a skilled pair of hands that created not only hairstyles but lifelong appreciative clients. He had a unique ability to listen, understand and create a look that reflected each person sitting in his chair, making them feel their absolute best. Whatever the hairstyle, Freddie did it with artistry, a warm smile and a genuine love for his clients, who became like family to him. His salon was not just a place to get a haircut; it was a sanctuary where laughter, stories and life updates were exchanged freely.
Freddie will be deeply missed, not just for his incredible talent, but for the warmth and kindness he brought to every interaction. He will be greatly missed by his husband, Ted Zoumis, with whom he shared genuine love and commitment. He will also be missed by a large family and friends.
Ted would like to extend a special thank you to Wendy L. Shone and Carole Lafave for all they have done through Fred’s illness.
The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 220 N. Walnut St., Youngstown, OH 44503, where in 2019, Freddie was baptized and became a parishioner. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, officiated by Fr. Joseph DiStefano and Fr. Constantine Valantasis.
Burial will immediately follow in Canfield Cemetery East.
