Edward S. Kowalski 1934-2025
CANFIELD — Edward S. “Ski” Kowalski, 90, of Canfield, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 10, 2025, at the Humility House Nursing Center in Austintown.
“Ski”, as he was affectionately known, was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of Stanley P. and Mary Y. Galambus Kowalski.
He attended Morgantown High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1952, where he served until being honorably discharged in 1956.
He spent his adult life working for General Motors in Lordstown for 30 years, retiring in 1996.
He married the former Mary C. Sumlin on Sept. 30, 1954. They shared 70 years of marriage and many wonderful memories together. She survives him.
Ski was a member of the Jubilee Christian Fellowship in Canfield and UAW Local 1112. He was also a 3rd Degree Master Mason with Argus Lodge No. 545 F&AM in Canfield. He was an avid softball player and kept playing well into his 70s. He also enjoyed hunting and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Besides his wife, Ski is survived by five children, Edward D. Kowalski of North Jackson, Stephen W. (Andrea) Kowalski of Canfield, Belinda L. Allen and Matthew W. Kowalski, both of Jacksonville, Florida, and Terry L. (Rod) Taylor of Ravenna. He also leaves behind a brother, Robert E. Kowalski of Morgantown; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David E. Kowalski; and two brothers, John and Stanley Kowalski.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield, with Pastor Jeff Mincher officiating.
Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home.
He will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Green Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Canfield.
