Marshall ‘Matt’ Martin Jr. 1934-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Marshall “Matt” Martin Jr., formerly of Berlin Center, passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, Dec. 3, 2024, at Heritage Manor. He was 90 years old.
Matt was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Plum Borough, Pa., to the late Marshall and Anna Tackenberg Martin.
After graduating from high school, Matt proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he moved to the area and worked for several years at the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad. Matt then worked as a mechanic at local car dealerships before spending 17 years working for the Ohio Turnpike. He also operated a lawn mower repair service from his home.
An avid roller skater, Matt met his beloved wife, the former June “Judy” Taylor, while roller skating, and they married six months later on July 11, 1959. Together, they shared a love of skating and many cherished memories.
Matt was a former member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay leader and recorded Sunday sermons to share with shut-ins.
He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Penguins and was a dedicated blood donor.
He leaves behind his daughter, Robin (Jim) Ackley of Lisbon; and his son, Brian (Lissa) Martin of Oxford.
Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, who passed Oct. 15, 2022; as well as his two sisters, Marie Manuel and Marcella Martin; and his two brothers, Harold Martin and Henry Martin.
Friends may call 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, at Lane Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes be made to the American Red Cross or Hospice of the Valley.
