Dorothy A. Jones 1931-2024
BOARDMAN — Dorothy A. Jones, 93, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday evening, Nov. 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 5, 1931, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Swantek Bodnovich, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended East High School.
Dorothy spent over 20 years working at the rectory of the former St. Stanislaus Church, where she also volunteered for many years. One of her most cherished memories was making pierogis with her fellow parishioners, a task she found great joy in as it connected her to both her faith and her community. Dorothy’s deep love for her faith was mirrored by her passion for family. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones, especially during the holidays, when her home was always filled with warmth, laughter and love.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank L. Jones, whom she married April 23, 1949. Frank passed away Oct. 5, 1982. Dorothy’s life was also marked by the loss of a grandson, Michael; and her siblings: three brothers, Andrew, George and Thomas; and three sisters, Dorothy, Mary and Agnes.
She is survived by her three sons, Frank M. (Pam) Jones of Youngstown, James A. (Nancy) Jones of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Richard P. Jones of Ellsworth; two daughters, Susan M. (Joseph Olguin) Spencer of Poland and Marybeth (David) Grove of Poland; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Dorothy’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Friends may call 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at St. Luke Parish, 5235 South Ave., Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
