Curtis J. Wellington 1959-2024

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Curtis John Wellington, 64, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024.

He was born Nov. 23, 1959, in Youngstown, and represented and honored his hometown throughout his life.

Curt was a staunch believer in continuous learning. A graduate of Boardman High School (1978), he obtained bachelor’s degrees in journalism (1982) and education (2013) from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Education (2015) from Ashland University. He was a member of OSU’s Chi Phi fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships.

Curt made his career in Columbus as an entrepreneur and small business owner. He was a dedicated supporter of his community and a member of Hilliard City Council, COTA Board, Hilliard Rotary Board, and trustee of Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.

Curt had a passion for music. For years, he and his wife, Linda, opened their home to friends and family to spread joy through music. He and his bandmates also enjoyed playing at fundraising events supporting cancer research.

Upon retirement, Curt and Linda moved to Fort Myers, Florida. He made friends everywhere he went, and many who knew him developed a strong, lifelong bond.

Curt’s deepest and most loving connection was always to his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda; his sons, Christopher (Jordann) and Kevin (Lauren); and grandson, Jackson, whom he adored. He also leaves behind his brother, Scott (Shannyn); their daughter, Samantha; and his stepdaughters, Calley (Steven) Vulich and Angela McCormack.

Curt is joyfully greeted in heaven by his late parents, Richard and Barbara Bargar Wellington, grandparents and Aunt Pat.

Before his passing, Curt said he was the happiest he had ever been. His memory and his spirit for life will endure for generations to come by all who knew him.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Corpus Christi Chapel-Traditional Latin Mass in Naples, Fort Myers and Bonita Springs, Florida, building fund, in Curt’s name, to show gratitude to those who helped Curt and Linda recover after Hurricane Ian.

Friends may call 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212. A memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. and a reception will follow.
