Chester P. Feret 1926-2024

Together again

POLAND — Chester P. Feret, 98, passed away peacefully, Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

In his own words …

Mr. Feret was born in Youngstown, May 15, 1926. He was the son of Josephine and Stanley Feret.

Chester was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Ohio University. He graduated from Youngtown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He received his M.S. in education from Westminster College.

Chester was an elementary school teacher in the Vienna School District and a teacher, homeschool visitor and elementary school principal in the Youngstown School District until retirement in 1987 as the principal of Jefferson Elementary School.

After retirement, he was a real-estate associate with Coldwell Banker and a Youngstown State University student-teacher campus supervisor.

Mr. Feret was a charter member of the Big Brothers and Sisters of the Mahoning Valley and was also a charter member of the St. Stanislaus Post 1222 Catholic War Veterans.

He was a soldier with the U.S. Army in the 78th Infantry Division during World War II in the European Theater of Operation, where he received a Purple Heart for combat in Germany.

Chester was a lifelong bowling enthusiast, beginning on the Woodrow Wilson bowling team. He played in various leagues and participated in state and local tournaments. He was a champion in the Youngstown Men’s Bowling Association’s third annual Senior Single Championship in 2001.

He served as president and vice-president for the Mahoning Valley Teachers Bowling League and as treasurer for the Mahoning Valley Men’s Bowlers for a number of years.

Chester loved playing golf, especially in the St. Stan’s League at Dogwood Golf Course, where he had two holes-in-one.

A post-retirement trip to California was truly memorable to him because he was a contestant on the “Price is Right” program in August 1988.

He was always so proud and happy to be fortunate to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his marriage with his wife Veronica, all of their four children and their families, plus many relatives and friends.

To cherish his memories are his four children, Thomas (Barbara) Feret, Diane (Bob) Goske, Stanley (Toni Lynn) Feret and Linda (Thomas) Guerrieri; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The St. Stanislaw Post #1222 of Catholic War Veterans will hold a rosary prayer service at 8:45 a.m., followed by calling hours from 9 to 9:45 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 10143 Main St. in New Middletown.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the church, followed by military honors.
