Chester M. Anderson 1936-2024

STREETSBORO — Chester Milton “Red” Anderson, of Streetsboro, formerly of Girard, passed away peacefully at Akron City Hospital with his children and grandchildren by his side, Monday evening, Sept. 30, 2024, less than 10 months after the loss of his beloved wife, Betty.

Red was born April 5, 1936, in Youngstown, the son of the late Ralph Dobson and Florence Elbel Anderson. He attended Chaney High School and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. After his service, Red returned home to Youngstown. He worked different jobs, eventually discovering his passion for landscaping. He started his own landscaping company, which he ran for many years until his retirement.

Red possessed a strong work ethic and also was known for his kind spirit and friendly nature. He was a man of simple pleasures, devoted to his family, and took great pride in his children and grandchildren, enjoying the time he spent with them and with friends. You could always find him engaged in conversation with those around him enjoying every minute of it. Family was what brought Red the most joy, and he will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren, whom he adored.

Red leaves behind his three children, Brian Anderson and his wife, Yvonne, of Livonia, Michigan, Gregory Anderson and his wife, Martina, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Denise DiNello and her husband, Daniel, of Streetsboro. He was a cherished grandfather to Jordan, Dana, Owen, Mallory and Conner. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Anderson; and his sister, JoAnn Grazier.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Hamady Anderson, whom he married June 13, 1964. Betty passed away Nov. 23, 2023. He also was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Florence Anderson; two brothers, Marvin and Walter Anderson; and three sisters, Juanita Hughes DuVall, Lucinda Wright and Delores Royal.
