Laurie J. Heaver 1954-2024

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Laurie J. Heaver, 70, a resident of Shell Point Retirement Community, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Born in Youngstown, she grew up and attended school in Boardman. A 1972 graduate of Boardman High School, Laurie was a drum major, played several instruments and played basketball.

Laurie was a woman of many talents. She was a skilled seamstress throughout her life, and her creativity and artistry were apparent in a variety of crafts. Her cakes, breads and other baked treats were shared and enjoyed by all. She loved sailing, participated in many races and served as commodore.

Generous with her time, she could always be found helping others and making friends wherever she went. She was a dedicated caretaker for both her parents. Her many volunteer activities included The Naples Players, St. Matthew’s House and many Shell Point activities, including the beautiful Serenity Garden. She loved sharing her joy for operas and her pet bunnies with her craft group in Naples and her Shell Point friends.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Robert and Lucile Heaver; a brother, Jeff Heaver; and a sister, Cathy Hunt.

She leaves behind a sister, Nancy Heaver of Powell; and a brother, Bob Heaver of Hilton Head, South Carolina.

A small ceremony will be held at a later date at Lake Park Cemetery in Boardman, where she will be interred with her family.

In lieu of flowers, please volunteer in your area or send a donation in Laurie’s name to The Naples Players in Naples, Florida; St. Matthew’s House in Naples and Fort Myers, Florida; or Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue.
