Eleanor R. Simari 1926-2024

Together again
BOARDMAN — Eleanor R. Simari, 97, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 16, 2024, at her home, with her sons by her side.
Eleanor was born on Nov. 22, 1926, on the East Side of Youngstown, a daughter of Anthony and Lucetta Sebastian Napoli.
She was a 1945 graduate of East High School and worked for the Truscon Steel Company during the war. She also worked as a clerk at Strouss Hershberg for over four years.
On June 25, 1949, Eleanor married the love of her life, Joseph E. “Joe” Simari of Hillsville, Pa., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage until Joe’s passing in 2014.
In addition to being a proud homemaker, Eleanor was devoted to her Catholic faith. While living in Campbell, Eleanor and her family belonged to St. John the Baptist Church where she was a frequent bingo volunteer. After moving to Boardman, the Simaris joined St. Charles Parish. Whether it was at her parish or at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Eleanor always found time to volunteer her time to help.
Eleanor was a wonderful cook and enjoyed traveling and reading. She was an avid Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan and never missed watching a game. Eleanor enjoyed a good game of cards and belonged to a card club for 50 years. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially at their family vacation house. Eleanor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eleanor will always be remembered by her two sons, Joseph Simari of Cleveland and Matthew Simari (Rene M. DePizzo Simari) of Boardman; four grandchildren, Joe (Kelly) Simari, Calie (Jeff) Hollinshead, Megan Simari (Scott Meechan) and Matthew Simari; and beloved great- grandchildren, Cecilia Marie, Joseph Dominic, Phoebe Kathleen, Dominic Edward, Josephine Alice and Lucetta Eleanor.
Besides her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Simari; brothers, Jay and George Napoli; and daughter-in-law, Joanne M. Restivo Simari.
Eleanor’s family wishes to thank the caring staff of Sanctuary Hospice and the wonderful caregivers of Home Care Specialized Senior Care, Kim Rice and Jacki Berggren, for their loving and tender care towards Eleanor.
