Margaret J. Bondor 1942-2023

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — Margaret Jean Conkey Bondor, 80, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Reserve at Towne Lake in Woodstock, Georgia.

Margaret was born Dec. 24, 1942, the daughter of Donald and Joanna Conkey.

Margaret was raised in Youngstown and graduated from Chaney High School in 1960. She went on to get her bachelor’s degree in mathematics education at Wittenberg University in Springfield. After graduation, she married George Bondor, also of Youngstown. Margie and George moved to Waynesboro, Virginia, where she taught junior high math. They had three daughters while living in Virginia.

In 1970, the couple moved back to Ohio, where they raised their children. While in Ohio, Margie received an additional degree in computer programming. She worked as a programmer and systems analyst in the private sector and taught programming at Terra State Community College in Fremont.

From 1976 to 1990, Margie and George lived in Woodville, where they worked diligently to restore their Victorian home to its historic glory. Margie spent many evenings on the front porch of that house on Main Street, greeting friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed membership in the Woodville Library Guild and a bridge club.

Margie and George then moved to Tipp City, where Margie became active in the Newcomers & Friends Club and at the Nearly New Shop. They retired to Acworth, Georgia, in 2003.

Margie was an avid reader and history buff. Her love of history and genealogy inspired her to travel to battlegrounds, museums, libraries, cemeteries and ancestral archives which housed information on her family members who were a part of our national history serving in multiple wars. She was also a lover of crossword and word search puzzles.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George Bondor; sister, Cindy Christoff and husband, Tom; brother, Donald Conkey and wife, Jaci; brother-in-law, Frank Paden; three daughters, Christine Bondor of Acworth, Georgia, Jackie Kaus and husband, Don, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Tracy Nelson and husband, Mike of Sunbury; five granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marsha Paden; and by her parents, Donald Conkey and Joanna Conkey Hemphill.

Margaret was a wonderful wife and mother, and friend to so many. She could and would talk to anyone … and EVERYONE would talk to her. She will be so greatly missed by all who were blessed to keep her company.

A memorial service for Margaret will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511.
