Janet L. Seckman 1932-2024
YOUNGSTOWN — Janet L. Seckman, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born on Nov. 8, 1932, in Mingo Junction, Janet was the beloved daughter of Louis and Elizabeth Hemsley Irving.
Janet married Kenneth W. Seckman, on June 26, 1950. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing on Nov. 23, 2008.
Janet was a proud 1950 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where she was a distinguished member of the National Honor Society. Following her graduation, she embarked on a fulfilling career, working at McKelvey’s, South Side Merchants and Jiffy Car Wash before dedicating 57 years of service to The Elmton, Inc., where she retired in 2021.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Janet served as a deacon in her church, found joy in reading and crocheting and was an avid gun enthusiast. Additionally, she and her husband were also passionate about square and round dancing, engaging with various clubs throughout the area for many years.
Janet’s legacy lives on through her daughter, Debra (Rich) Tarnaski of Youngstown; her son, David Seckman and his longtime companion, Lana, of Nashville, Tennessee; as well as her granddaughter, Holly (James) Justice of Youngstown.
In addition to her parents and her husband Kenneth, Janet was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Arlene.
Janet’s family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024 at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. A service celebrating her life will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Lake Park Cemetery.
