Edmond C. Clarke 1936-2024

LAFAYETTE, Colo. — Edmond “Ted” Charles Clarke, 88, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2024.

Ted was born in Cleveland and lived for 86 years in Youngstown. Despite living his last few years near family in Florida and Colorado, Ted remained a Buckeye through the end. He died peacefully and surrounded by his family.

Ted was born June 1, 1936, to Wilbur James Clarke Sr. and Gertrude Powers Clarke, both of Youngstown. He graduated from The Rayen School in Youngstown in 1954 and from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in business administration in 1958. Ted was a proud Marine, serving for six years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve out of Youngstown.

Ted met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Moran Clarke in 1963. Ted and Betty were married at St. Charles Church in Boardman on May 9, 1964. This May, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

In addition to Betty, Ted leaves his beloved daughters Jo Aine Clarke of Portland, Oregon, and Maggie (David) Crosswy of Lafayette, Colorado. He leaves his favorite (and only!) grandson, David Thomas Crosswy, who adores his “Pa” and wishes he could have played a round of mini-golf with him before he passed. Ted also leaves behind more than a dozen nieces and nephews he loved like his own children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wilbur “Bill” James Clarke Jr.; as well as several sisters- and brothers-in-law, with whom he and Betty shared countless adventures and laughs.

Ted joined Hynes Industries in 1966, where he worked among friends for more than 40 years, retiring as vice president and treasurer. Ted also served on the boards of the Youngstown Foundation, St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center.

Ted loved his time on the golf course almost as much as he loved mowing his lawn. He was an avid reader and bridge player, and in retirement, loved his near-daily walks in Mill Creek Park. He and Betty feel lucky to have found dear friends in their longtime Westport Drive neighborhood.

Ted was a devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and all Cleveland sports teams.

Ted will always be remembered for his loyalty, his kind heart and his sense of humor. His memory will live in the hearts of all who loved him.

Ted will be laid to rest in Florida National Cemetery with a family celebration of life to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Beatitude House in Youngstown.
